Short biography

Marianne Dekker (The Hague, 20-2-1953)
studied painting and graphic arts at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.

My work consists of drawings and paintings (small to medium sized) and short animations (quicktime movies).

After my studies I used strong colours. After a period of drawing more sober coloured geometrical lines, characters and signs my work transformed into abstract art. In my current work colours are more exuberant again.
As a child I travelled many times to Russia. The atmosphere and the colours of the religious icons I saw there formed a source of inspiration.

In 2004 I started photographing in my studio. I took pictures of (details of) my own drawings and of small daily life objects. From 2005 I use these pictures as material for making short animation movies. The electronic music for these animations is made by the composer Kees Tazelaar.
